Dayton Dog Bite Lawyers
Advocating for Your Rights with Compassionate Expertise
Being attacked and bitten by a dog is one of the most terrifying experiences imaginable. When a dog bite victim is a child, the incident is all the more traumatic. Fortunately, dog bite victims in Ohio are protected by the state's dog bite laws. In cases where the dog's owner was negligent, the victim can file a dog bite lawsuit to recover compensation for their injuries.
At the Law Offices of Gump & Deal, we know how to effectively advocate for dog bite victims. We are committed to holding negligent dog owners accountable for their actions and securing fair compensation for our clients.

Understanding Ohio's Dog Bite Laws
Ohio's dog bite laws are designed to protect victims of dog bites and other dog-related injuries. The state's dog bite statute of limitations mandates that victims file dog bite lawsuits within two years of the incident. Under certain circumstances, however, the deadline can be extended. Additionally, Ohio allows dog bite victims to recover compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages.
In order to win a dog bite lawsuit, our Dayton dog bite attorneys must prove that the dog's owner was negligent. The most common forms of negligence in dog bite cases involve:
- Failure to properly control the dog. Dog owners have a duty to control their pets at all times. They must keep them on leashes, in fences, and/or inside homes when they cannot directly supervise them. If the owner fails to do this and the dog bites someone, the owner is negligent.
- Failure to properly train the dog. Dog owners are required to properly train their pets. This includes teaching them to behave and not bite people. If the owner does not train the dog and the dog bites someone, the owner is liable for the victim's injuries.
- Failure to properly secure a dangerous dog. Ohio allows local governments to regulate the ownership of dangerous dogs. If the owner of a dangerous dog is not properly licensed, the owner is liable for any injuries caused by the dog. If the owner fails to secure the dangerous dog in a proper pen, the owner is liable for any injuries caused by the dog.
